TREATMENT ROOM/PREP AREA

This is where minor operations or procedures are carried out. It is particularly useful for preparing the patients for surgery in the next door theatre. The pets will be anaesthetised and the operation site clipped and scrubbed prior to them being moved to the operating theatre. The central table is a sink which allows us to wash animals on the table itself and is particularly useful for disposing of the results of cleaning teeth or anal glands..! On the wall you will see the orange endotracheal tubes which are inserted into the patient's throat after they have been anaesthetised by injection. They are all different sizes depending on the species and breed. Once in place, the smaller part of the tube is inflated so that no gas can leak out around the tube in the animal's windpipe. This room contains all the sterile packs and instruments we need. We sterilise our equipment in the autoclave which lives in the laundry/utility room near the kennels. The white board will have all the information about the list of operations for that day, usually starting with the most invasive. All the dental work is carried out in this room to prevent infection spreading via airborne particles. Sterile operations are carried out through the "ER" swing doors.
